    Primary research areas:

My research centers on the relationship between digital infrastructure and sociality. I work at the intersection of media, software and cultural studies, and science and technology studies. I'm interested in the social and political concerns that arise from new forms of computational media, particularly the impact of algorithms and software on everyday life.

    • Social media
    • Software studies
    • Algorithmic culture
    • Media aesthetics

    Current research:

I am currently writing a book on the power and politics of algorithms in everyday life, called Algorithmic Life (under contract with Oxford University Press).

I am a collaborating partner in the research project Digitization and Diversity: Potentials and Challenges for Diversity in the Culture and Media Sector, financed by the Research Council of Norway (2015-2019). I'm looking at changes in news work and media production as a result of new digitization processes, focusing on the ethical, social and policy implications these processes have on notions of diversity.

    Teaching and areas of supervision:

I teach in the BA and MA programmes of Communication and IT, including courses on communication theory, theory of science, and the analysis, design and regulation of IT-infrastructure. My areas of supervision include:

    • Social media
    • Critical algorithm and software studies
    • Social and communication theory
    • Digital infrastructure
    • Internet governance
