DIKU welcomes CST research group

research collaboration

As of 1 August 2016 the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Research Group headed by Professor Anders Søgaard, presently part of the Centre for Language Technology (CST) and partner in CCC, will relocate to DIKU's premises at Northern Campus and become part of DIKU's Image Section.

The NLP group performs research within natural language processing and machine learning and thus share a common denominator with the Machine Learning and Information Retrieval researchers at DIKU. It is expected that the vicinity to DIKU's Image Section will produce a synergy effect with regard to research in this field - hopefully expressed in more publications, funding applications and grants.

- At the moment we are doing projects from ERC, DFF, Eurostars, Trygfonden and Carlsberg. Most of these projects are about developing data-effective machine learning methods for solving challenging problems in natural language processing, but we believe that there is a wide range of potential synergies with researchers across all the different sections of DIKU, says Anders Søgaard.

- At DIKU we look forward to welcoming the NLP group at Northern Campus, says Mads Nielsen, Head of Department at DIKU, and continues:

- The incorporation of the group will not only strengthen this area of research at DIKU, but also reinforce the cooperation with the Nordic Research Department with respect to research as well as teaching. Existing common research projects within the CCC framework will be continued. The group will also continue to teach at the IT and Cognition MSc study programme.
