Evelyn Ruppert

Where are the political subjects of Big Data?

Join this Uncertain Archives afternoon feat. Evelyn Ruppert

Professor Evelyn Ruppert, Goldsmiths, University of London, poses the question of where are the political subjects of Big Data. The question starts from the proposition that studies of Big Data are proliferating, yet lacking concepts for framing and interpreting what these mean for political subjectivities and their relation to the data that are generated and interpreted. Her objective is to provide a theory of digital acts and digital citizens that builds on this proposition to provide an approach that attends to the uncertainties of political subjectivity that involve power relations between and amongst embodied subjects who act through the Internet and in doing so are part of the making of data.

Introducing the European Tertiary Education Register (ETER) dataset: The potential of microdata on universities for empirical analysis and policy making

Talk by Professor Andrea Bonaccorsi, University of Pisa and Associate Professor Cinzia Daraio, University of Rome, La Sapienza.

The seminar will introduce participants to the newly created European Tertiary Education Register (ETER) dataset. The dataset includes institutional data, student (enrolments and degrees), academic and non-academic staff, with a breakdown by field of education, degree, gender, and nationality. With the dataset, a number of open issues in the economics of higher education and research, as well as in regional economics, economic geography, public economics, and efficiency analysis can be addressed with a fresh approach.

Time: 17 November 2016, 15:00-16:00
Place: Karen Blixens vej 4, 2300 Copenhagen S, room 14.2.80
