University of Copenhagen's Criminological Observatory publishes annual trend report from Roskilde Festival

In 2024, the Criminological Observatory once again conducted fieldwork as part of its multi-year collaboration with Roskilde Festival, focusing on drug trends in Danish party culture.

This year’s report was produced in collaboration with the Department of Forensic Medicine at the University of Copenhagen, which contributed with wastewater analysis.

The report is structured into three main sections:

  1. Drug Trends
This section maps the substances circulating at the festival and explores guest practices and perceptions related to drug use.
  2. Economy and Infrastructure
This section examines the buying and selling of drugs among both festivalgoers and dealers, with a focus on how substances are acquired, stored, and (re)distributed within the festival's micro-market.
  3. Drugging
The final section addresses drugging as a phenomenon, investigating guest narratives, precautionary strategies, barriers to seeking help, and the gendered dimensions of the experience.

The report draws on insights from ethnographic fieldwork, survey data, and wastewater samples, contributing to a deeper understanding of how drugs shape and reflect the social dynamics of youth culture in Denmark.
