Atreyee Sen Awarded Prize for Year's Best Article in Critical Asian Studies

The prize has been awarded for Sen's article "No City for Lovers: Anti-Romeo Squads, Resistance, and the Micro-politics of Moral Policing in an Indian City”. In choosing the article for the award, the  the interdisciplinary panel of judges from the editorial and advisory boards cited the richness of the empirical research and Sen's engagement with a broad spectrum of scholarship. They noted that Sen's work enables theorizing about such cross-cultural phenomena as resilience, resistance, and indigeneity without relying on jargon or becoming detached from the local reality that is interrogated. They noted in particular that this work contributes to discussion of its subject matter across disciplines, interpretive frameworks, and area focus. The article can be accessed here.
