Projects

Copenhagen Centre for Global Criminology (CCC) is a cross-disciplinary research centre with a specific focus on the increasing numbers of cross-border crimes and criminalisations, which the world is currently witnessing.

At CCC different research projects are currently carried out by different groups and individual researchers. Although the projects deal with different issues, they mutually inform one another as all researchers at CCC are engaged in building up shared knowledge about cross-border issues of crime and crime control - trying to connect locally studied issues with global flows and formations.

Criminal Entanglements (CRIMTANG)

Linked to terrorism, moral breakdown and societal decay, transnational organized crime (TOC) has come to embody current global anxieties as a figure of fear and cause of disquiet.

Gang Economies in the Øresund Region

This project focuses on tracing the submerged economies of Danish gangs that are expanding not only across the nation, but also towards Sweden.

Why are some communities more likely to experience violent extremism than others? This is a core question for the PREVEX project, which is a collaborative research project consisting of a carefully assembled team of area and subject experts that represent both EU member states and the regions analysed.

This project explores drug trends among Danish youth at Northern Europe’s largest music event, Roskilde Festival. The high concentration of people and intense social interactions at large music festivals provide a unique window into youth drug culture. Here, trends become concentrated and visible.

The aim of this project is to explore the criminalisation of humanitarianism, that is the effects of the recent criminalisation of women and men who volunteer to conduct rescue operations at the Italian borders to save the lives of migrants trying to enter Europe

An ethnography of international criminal justice practice. The project examines the emergence, evolution and implementation of novel modalities of investigating and prosecuting core international crimes as seen in the context of the Syrian conflict.

This project investigates different expressions of blue crime and the responses to threats such as piracy and smuggling in the Indo-Pacific

Young Copenhageners’ use of illegal opioids and benzodiazepines

When health authorities and counseling centers noted rising opioid use among young Danes, the Health and Care Administration and the Criminological Observatory collaborated on a project focusing on young Copenhageners' use of illegal opioids and benzodiazepines. The aim was to understand the contexts and motivations for youth drug use, and to better prepare adults to manage and prevent substance abuse.
